 Never the same sound twice. Yet it replays the same every time.

* Overview

VARIANZ DRIFT is an 8-channel drum synth VST3 / AU plugin with a
step sequencer. Instead of playing back samples, it generates the
sound anew on every hit.

  - "VARIANZ" varies pitch, length, brightness, volume, attack,
    pan, and timing on every hit.
  - Lock the variation with a number (SEED) so you can reproduce
    the exact same performance as many times as you want.
  - "WEAR" gradually wears out the sound as playback continues.
  - Freely combine 35 sound kits and 104 patterns.
  - 8 individual channel outputs and MIDI drag export.

You can build loops where kicks and hi-hats sound slightly
different each time, without a stiff programmed feel. Designed
for EDM and techno.

* Installation

[Windows]

  1. Extract this ZIP file.
  2. Copy the VARIANZ DRIFT.vst3 folder to the following location:

       C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\

  3. Launch your DAW and perform a plugin rescan.
     (If you copy the file while your DAW is running, changes may
     not take effect.)

To uninstall, delete the VARIANZ DRIFT.vst3 folder you copied.
If you also want to delete user presets, delete:
%APPDATA%\VarianzDrift\Presets\

[Mac]

  1. Extract this ZIP file.
  2. Copy VARIANZ DRIFT.vst3 and VARIANZ DRIFT.component to the
     following locations respectively:
     (~ represents your user home folder. You can open it by pasting
     the path into Finder: Go -> Go to Folder. Create the folder if
     it does not exist.)

       VARIANZ DRIFT.vst3      -> ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/
       VARIANZ DRIFT.component -> ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/

  3. Open Terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal), paste the
     following three lines one by one, and press Return:

   cd ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
   xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "VST3/VARIANZ DRIFT.vst3"
   xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "Components/VARIANZ DRIFT.component"

     If nothing is displayed, it succeeded. If you do not run this,
     macOS will show messages like "is damaged and cannot be opened"
     or "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified",
     and the DAW will not load the plugin. This command only removes
     the quarantine attribute that macOS attaches to downloaded files
     (you need to run it again when updating or reinstalling).
  4. Launch your DAW and perform a plugin rescan.
     (If the AU plugin does not appear in Logic Pro or other DAWs,
     restart your Mac.)

To uninstall, delete VARIANZ DRIFT.vst3 and VARIANZ DRIFT.component
that you copied. If you also want to delete user presets, delete:
~/Library/VarianzDrift/Presets/

* Quick start

  1. Load the plugin on an instrument track in your DAW.
  2. At the top of the window, select a sound kit with KIT and a
     rhythm with PATTERN. Because the two are independent, you can
     combine them freely.
  3. Press the Space key to start playback and turn up FLUX on each
     channel. This deepens the variation on every hit.

When you find a variation you like, note the SEED number and set
REPEAT to LOCKED to reproduce that performance as many times as
you want.

For detailed instructions, see the bundled
VARIANZ_DRIFT_Manual_EN.html.

* About the download warning

display a warning. Click "More info" and then select "Run anyway"
to proceed.

[Mac]
