3. Installation

Installation (Windows)

  1. Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
  2. Copy the VELVOX.vst3 folder to the following location:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
  3. Launch your DAW and perform a plugin rescan (if you copy while the DAW is running, it may not be detected immediately).

Windows security warning:
Because this plugin is not code-signed, your browser may show a warning when downloading the ZIP. In that case, choose to keep or allow the file. Before extracting, right-click the ZIP file and open "Properties". If you see "Security: This file came from another computer..." at the bottom, check "Unblock", click OK, and then extract the archive.

Installation (Mac)

  1. Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
  2. Copy VELVOX.vst3 to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/, and copy VELVOX.component to ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ (where ~ represents your home folder. In Finder, open the "Go" menu, choose "Go to Folder...", paste the path, and press Return. If the folder does not exist, create it).
  3. Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities → Terminal), paste the following 3 lines one by one, and press Return for each:
    cd ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine VST3/"VELVOX.vst3"
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Components/"VELVOX.component"
  4. Launch your DAW and perform a plugin rescan (if you copy while the DAW is running, it may not be detected immediately. If AU does not appear in Logic Pro or other DAWs, restart your Mac).

Mac security warning:
Because this plugin is not notarized, macOS will show a message such as "is damaged and cannot be opened" or "cannot check it for malicious software" unless you run the commands above, preventing the DAW from loading the plugin. These commands remove the quarantine attribute attached by macOS to downloaded files. You must run these commands again if you reinstall or update the plugin. If nothing is displayed in Terminal, the command succeeded.

Uninstallation

[Windows] Delete the copied VELVOX.vst3 folder.
[Mac] Delete the copied VELVOX.vst3 and VELVOX.component files.

4. Using with OBS

Because OBS cannot load VST3 plugins directly, install the free OBS plugin "atkAudio Plugin" and run VELVOX inside it. OBS Studio 31.1.1 or later (64bit) is required.

  1. Install the installer for your OS from the atkAudio Plugin download page.
  2. Launch OBS and open "Filters" for your microphone audio source.
  3. Click "+" and add "atkAudio Plugin Host".
  4. Click "Open Plugin Settings", and under "Options", select "Scan for new or updated VST3 plugins" to detect installed plugins (first time only).
  5. Select VELVOX from the list, click "Load Plugin" to load it, open the window, and turn the knobs.

Microphone filter order:
If you use OBS built-in noise suppression, place VELVOX after it in the filter list.

* In a DAW (such as Ableton Live), simply insert it as a standard effect on your vocal track.

OUT "Voice level" meter

6. How to use

  1. Turn up PRESENCE while speaking, and stop where your voice cuts through game audio and background music.
  2. If your voice sounds thin or weak, turn up WARMTH.
  3. Check the OUT meter to see if the bar stays within the target zone while speaking. If it does not reach the zone, adjust the mic input gain (via your computer sound settings or audio interface knob). The volume fader in the OBS mixer is applied after VELVOX, so it does not affect the meter here.

* The default value for each knob is 40.
